Overview

Dark Mrak Tattoo is a blackwork tattoo studio run by a single artist with a distinct visual identity - dark, cinematic, and uncompromising. The goal was to build a digital gallery that communicates professionalism and exclusivity within the first three seconds, while making it effortless for Instagram-driven clients to find and book the artist.

Challenge

The biggest challenge was translating a strong offline artistic identity into a digital experience that feels equally intentional. The site needed to work as a high-end portfolio and a booking tool at the same time - without sacrificing the dark, immersive aesthetic for usability. With 90% of traffic coming from mobile via Instagram, performance and mobile experience were non-negotiable.

Process

The design was built around the client's brief - dark minimalism inspired by Bang Bang NYC, cinematic visuals, and heavy typography. I used Figma to design a high-contrast layout with Roboto Mono as the sole typeface - a technical, precise font that reinforces the studio's dark and uncompromising aesthetic. In Webflow, I implemented custom GSAP scroll animations including scroll-fill text effects and fade-in interactions to bring the site to life without compromising load speed. The portfolio grid was built with a lightbox effect for an immersive image viewing experience on both desktop and mobile.

Outcome

The final website delivers the immersive, gallery-like experience the client envisioned. Visitors immediately understand the studio's aesthetic and can book directly without friction. The mobile experience is seamless, reflecting the reality that most clients arrive from Instagram and make a decision within seconds.
